What is COIL?
COIL stands for Collaborative Online International Learning, and it is part of a broader Internationalisation at Home strategy. COIL projects help staff and students gain international experiences in the classroom, without leaving the country. COIL projects can be large or small: a collaborative module between students at different institutions, guest lectures in overseas institutions, or asynchronous peer reviews of work. We have more examples of COIL projects under our Internationalisation at Home tab.
What do I do if I want to start a new COIL project?
If you want to run a COIL project as part of your programme, we’re here to help. What we can help with:
Finding a partner
If you don’t have an international partner in mind for your COIL project, we can help you find one. We have a database of partners who have contacted us to express an interest in doing a project with Lincoln, and we also have connections all over the world thanks to our Study Abroad partners. You are welcome to set up COIL projects, large and small, with institutions all over the world.
Planning
We have a range of resources available to help you plan your COIL project on our COIL page here. If you would like to talk about how to use these resources or add any that you’ve used yourself, please get in touch.
Recording
We want to gather the details of your COIL project and put it into our database for others at Lincoln to see. If you are already running a COIL project or have one in mind, we’d like to hear about it. This database will be an invaluable resource for colleagues to get ideas for their own projects in the future.
